I also like heroines who are selective and don't fall for guys who don't deserve them. Maybe this comes to mind because I recently read a romance book where the hero(heel)
called the heroine every insulting thing he could come up with and she still fell in love with him. I would have told him where to go and it would not have been Disney World. She has to pull it out of herself and give it all she's got. And she, of course, has to be likable, friendly and down to earth!
Hoep you're doing well!Donna Del Grossonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871418193362858795.post-57924873784585338632010-03-16T07:43:56.537-07:002010-03-16T07:43:56.537-07:00Thank you, Erin. ...Thank you, Erin. Y' done my heart proud too!

I can't be snarky. I don't even know how to be. If I think I'm saying something nasty about a book I have to back space and start over. Usually if I have an issue with a book, I have my mom to discuss it with, since we generally read the same books. There was one review that I had written, and I had a few issues with it and I stated them in my reivew, but before I posted it, I sent it to the author to read. We discussed some of those issues and listening to her point of view, I changed a few things. Overall my opinion was still mine. I don't think the review leaned toward the author any more than it did originally. It was helpful for me to do that.

I have come across some really trashy review sites and I never go back a second time. I just don't see the point in being mean and nasty and sarcastic. A lot of time is spent writing those books and if I were on the receiving end, well, I may not want to write again. There is always a gentler way to review a book if you did not like it. And besides, I wouldn't feel so good about myself if I was intentionally being mean because something didn't agree with me.Amy Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12832983748006739171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6871418193362858795.post-1324215917584703322010-03-15T19:08:47.667-07:002010-03-15T19:08:47.667-07:00Ah, lass, y' done my heart good. :) And for ...Ah, lass, y' done my heart good. :) And for the record, I love your reviews. :) Even when you don't like a book, you still approach it professionally and offer some of its good qualities and acknowledge the fact that it's work of art not everyone will appreciate instead of getting all snarky. There's one reviewer I know (though not personally) who is so mean that it always feels like she's showing off--you know--see what a tough reviewer I am?

I was raised under a strict code of do unto others so I don't get this, but hey, what goes around comes around, right?

Okay, off my soap box. But there's one thing each of them shares in common.

There MUST be something interesting going on in her life. The situation and the way she deals with it must offer me something I can relate to. That's what snags my interest.
